The Puuvilla Shopping Center is located in a historical industrial environment and comprises an entire city block. It's a new kind of center for commerce, public services, education, culture, administration and leisure. The site is unique due to its location on the Kokemäenjoki River, in the Pori city center, surrounded by historically valuable, protected buildings. Puuvilla is the only shopping center in Finland where a modern environment blends in with a historically valuable milieu, respecting old buildings.

The Puuvilla Shopping Center is the largest shopping center in Satakunta region in Western Finland. On the national scale, it's among the largest ten. During the construction phase, the project employed up to 300 people.

There will be approximately 43,000 square meters of commercial area to rent. The aim is to provide energy with low emissions, and geoenergy is used for heating and cooling the building. The building aims to achieve LEED Gold certification.

Versatile utilization of information modeling in the construction process

The Puuvilla Shopping Center was named the best information modeling project in 2013 in the Global Tekla BIM Awards competition; Puuvilla won the series for construction projects that best and most comprehensively utilize information modeling. Data management had an essential role in the implementation of a complex construction project like Puuvilla.

As many as 13 parties, using information models, were involved in the project. The Puuvilla worksite was also named the best piling site in 2013. Grounds for the selection were especially the excellent organization and management of piling work, and smooth cooperation between different parties. The selection was made by Betoniteollisuus ry.
