GPSG PDP-6 Phase I

  • ALZA GPSG PDP-6 Phase I

The $13 million, 11,000-SF project scope involved multiple elements including major renovations to six areas of the existing lab building. This included renovations to the existing granulator and coater manufacturing suites, construction of new microbiology and finished products laboratories, and construction of new laser and vision suites. The demands of these projects were technically complex and logistically very challenging. Project challenges included: seven concurrent projects: two labs, three equipment rooms, two manufacturing suites; very limited windows to tie-in facilities; as built documents proved to be unreliable; multiple project managers on the owner’s side meant a slow response to all project issues; and three national architectural/engineering firms were included with little onsite presence. The project was specifically for ALZA Corporation which is a member of the Johnson & Johnson family of companies and one of its west coast pharmaceutical research and development sites.
