Skanska provided preconstruction and construction management services for the 20,500-SF, four-story, round, office building addition to the existing North Carolina Biotechnology Center, originally built by Skanska in 1992. The addition is connected to the existing facility with a four-story glass link. The project has many sustainable design features and achieved LEED silver certification. The building includes two stair towers and one elevator and restroom core. The first level is mainly comprised of a meeting room and serving area while the upper floors contain 34 individual offices with conference spaces on each floor. The site includes a new remote parking lot and reconfiguration of some of the existing parking areas so that parking is over bio-retention pond basins for storm water runoff. Skanska built remote parking first in order to separate construction and facility traffic. The site included a rain garden, patio terraces and concrete pavers.
