The University of Michigan Solid-State Electronics Laboratory addition and renovation project (SSEL) is a state-of-the-art cleanroom facility. The combination of complicated construction procedures, high-tech materials and equipment in its final operation make it a stand-out in the study of electrical engineering in Michigan. Staff and students in the electrical engineering department study, research and develop some of today’s cutting edge technologies in such fields as semiconductors, organic light emitting diodes, microelectromechanical systems, cochlear implants, and smaller, more powerful computer chips. The project features a Class 100 cleanroom, a 100-ft tour aisle which is meant to showcase the cleanroom, and dedicated mechanical rooms for this MEP intensive project.
