In the years 2004 - 2005 Skanska realized bypass of Grodziec which was almost 5 km inlength. Skanska's scope of work included construction of 2 two-lane roadways of nearly 4,9 km in length that meet expressway standards, i.e. roadway width – 10 m, pavement bearing capacity - 115 kN per axle; roadways separated by a green belt and protection barriers. The bypass is a part of the project “Construction of S-1 expressway between Bielsko-Biała, Skoczów and Cieszyn”. Realization works were started in 2002 and included construction of an expressway of total length 28,2 km alongside the existing state road No 1 from Bielsko - Biała to Cieszyn. The route is a part of Transeuropean Netowork of Corridor No VI, connecting north and south Poland and running from the Baltic sea through Łódź and Katowice to the Czech Republic border.
