Smith Creek Parkway

  • Smith Creek Parkway

In April 2001, Skanska was awarded this project by the North Carolina Department of Transportation to construct the third phase of the Smith Creek Parkway.

This $65M project included the construction, widening and/or remediation of 12 bridges (437K sf of deck) and construction of approximately 8,200 feet of roadway to connect highway NC133/117 to US117 via Smith Creek Parkway.  The Parkway also connects to existing McRae Street.  Existing bents on NC 133 at the south bank of the Cape Fear River were extended to accommodate on and off ramp bridges over wetland areas.  The majority of the bridges were over wetlands and were constructed from a temporary trestle.  The bridges were supported by 24” square concrete pile as 6’ drilled shafts.

Work also included culverts, milling and repaving existing roadways as well as storm drain, utilities, lighting, signage, traffic signalization and latex concrete overlay on existing bridge deck.
