Joseph Hernandez Hall on the main campus of the University of Florida is 111,000-SF of classroom, auditorium, teaching and research laboratories, and ancillary spaces. The University’s new home for chemistry and chemical biology studies is one of the most advanced undergraduate laboratories in the state. The LEED Gold facility house general, organic and analytical chemistry, and biochemistry laboratories and boasts 123 permanent fume hoods. The labs also include walk-in freezers, tissue culture labs, cold rooms maintained at 4 degrees, and large -70 degree freezers. Due to the nature of the chemicals required for equipment and experiments, all lab systems feature fully welded stainless steel ductwork, which is both difficult to install and required diligent quality control. The Skanska team used a three tiered inspection system provided the University with confidence that their investment will be safe and functional well into the future.
