NRG Energy Inc. in a strategic partnership with the Miami Heat, selected Skanska to construct a 24,000-SF solar pavilion on the East Plaza of American Airlines Arena, the home of the NBA Miami Heat in downtown Miami, Florida.
The pavilion will transform this under utilized space at the Arena into an elegant showcase with forward-thinking aesthetic and clean-energy design. The pavilion will be decorated throughout with circles spanning 16 to 24 feet in diameter that will appear to be skylights, but are actually translucent solar panels utilizing Building Integrated Photovoltaic (BIPV) solar technology.
The 4-6 month construction phase requires base connection and utility routing in the ceiling space of Miami Heat office operations.
